ELMIRA M. CERNY

Elmira M. Cerny, 91, of Delavan, formerly of Walworth, died Jan. 16, 2014.

She was born on Jan. 20, 1922, near Montfort, to John and Mary (Maymie) Minter Laufenberg. She married Stanley Cerny on Dec. 28, 1948, at St. Thomas Church in Montfort.

She and her husband farmed on Big Foot Prairie near Walworth for many years. She was an avid member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Fontana and the Farm Bureau, serving as chairman of the Women’s Committee for 20 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, her parents, and one sister, Verus.

She is survived by her sons and daughter, Michael, of Sharon, Philip, of McFarland, Karen Romero (Adolfo), of Delavan, and Kevin (Susan), of Delavan; nine grandchildren, Renee, Megan, Anna, Thomas, Jonathon, Ryan, Emilie, Elizabeth and Nicole; six step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Jean Clifton, of Montfort; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Jan. 19 at Toynton Funeral Home in Walworth. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Jan 20 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Fontana. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests memorials to St. Benedict Church for masses or Aurora Lakeland Medical Center Auxiliary.
