GERALDINE ‘GERRY’ URBANIAK, SR.

Geraldine “Gerry” Urbaniak, Sr., of Troy, found peace Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center, at the age of 89 years.

On April 6, 1924, Gerry was born in Milwaukee to parents Walter and Helen (nee Grochowski) Pekel and attended St. Gerard’s School.

She married her late husband, Leo, in 1941 in Milwaukee. They moved to Troy in 1955, where they owned and operated “Club Troy” for 30 some years. Gerry loved gardening, both floral and vegetable, knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She had a love for animals, and spent many an afternoon enjoying her 2 p.m. glass of wine while bird watching from her porch. Many summer days were spent “Up North,” where Gerry and Leo loved to spend time with family.

She is survived by her son, Melbourne (Gerry Jr.) of Troy; granddaughters, Chris Urbaniak of Troy, and Connie (Dave) Amann of Elkhorn; great-grandsons, Marshall and Jared Amann; brothers, Ralph (Florence) and Don (Dottie); sisters-in-law, Angie and Nancy; niece and nephews, Deanna, Dale, and David; her loving canine companion, Jessie; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, husband, and brothers, Walter “Booba” Jr., and Theodore “Ted.”

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Inurnment to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lakeland Animal Shelter in Gerry’s name appreciated.

Legacy Funeral Services assisted the family.

  3. GRANDMA GERRY WAS THE CLOSEST TO A GRANDMA I EVER HAD. SHE HAD A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR, LIKED HER COCKTAILS, AND HAD A WAY OF MAKING ME FEEL LIKE PART OF HER FAMILY, THANK YOU GRANDMA I WILL MISS YOU ALOT BUT I WILL REMEMBER YOU ALWAYS
