ELIZABETH M. SUPERNAW

Elizabeth M. Supernaw, 82, former long term mayor of Delavan, died at her home May 16, 2013. She was born Nov. 5, 1930, to Alfred and June (Dyer) Sime of Soldiers Grove.

She was a graduate of Madison East High School and the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She married John R. Supernaw Sept. 6, 1952.

She taught in the Madison school system and was very involved in her community, serving on the Vocational Industries Board, the Madison Eye Bank Advisory Committee, City of Delavan Water and Sewer Commission, City of Delavan Planning Commission, and as rsvp board chairman, Downtown Improvement Association treasurer, Pastor-Parish Relations Committee chair at Delavan United Methodist Church, AFS secretary, Crop Walk chairperson, Walworth County supervisor, City of Delavan alderperson, City of Delavan mayor and president of Delavan and Delavan Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.

She was also a Jaycee Distinguished Service Award recipient and an active member of the Democratic Party.

Survivors include sons, John (Melody), Florida, and William, Delavan; grandchildren, Jason, John, Joseph Boyd, Jeffery, Kelly and Daniel; great granddaughters, Gracie and Lauren; sister Ann (Richard) Olsen, Morrisonville; and a brother, Keith Sime, Madison.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; sister, Jan Stabell; and sister–in–law, Dorothy Sime.

Visitation was held May 21 at Betzer Funeral Home, Delavan. Graveside services were held June 1 at Spring Grove Cemetery.

Memorials to the United Way are suggested.
