JOAN CAMPBELL

Joan Campbell, age 70, beloved wife and companion of Michael, passed away after a lengthy illness on Wednesday night, March 13, 2013.

Joan was the daughter of Margaret and George (deceased) Kabke and sister to Judith Buntrock (deceased) and Deborah Wenninger. An aunt to six nieces and one nephew, Joan was also great-aunt to nine nephews and nieces.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh with further graduate work in Madison, she taught English and speech at West Senior High School in Madison for three years and later in Berwyn and Elmwood Park, Ill. After 10 years there, she became the office manager for a Chicago placement firm and followed this career move to serve as registrar for Keller-DeVry Graduate Schools.

After taking retirement, she and her husband taught rhetoric part time at Purdue University in Indiana. They returned to Wisconsin in 1999 and resided first in Whitewater and then six years ago in Fort Atkinson.

While living in Whitewater, Joan served as her housing association’s secretary. An avid quilter, she served as secretary for the Fort Atkinson Piecemakers Quilt Guild. In addition, she won first place two years in a row at the Jefferson Wool Festival, received various awards at other quilt shows, and was a guest speaker on occasion with other Wisconsin quilt organizations.

Known for her gracious and lovely disposition, she will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to know her. Donations in her memory can be sent to the American Lung Association.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
