RUTH H. SCHARINE

Ruth H. Scharine, 98, of Delavan passed away Feb. 12 at Linden Grove Nursing Home in Waukesha. She was born in Lake Geneva on Dec. 20, 1914 to the late Albert and Anna (Johnson) Peterson. She was united in marriage to Melvin Scharine on June 5, 1937 at her home in Hebron, Ill. Her husband, Melvin, preceded her in death on June 8, 2005.
Ruth and her husband owned and operated the Richmond General Store and the Richmond Telephone Company until 1951. She then began working as a teacher in the local school systems and finally working in the school offices before retiring. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Delavan, member of the Delavan Lioness Club and a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Cefalu of Sussex; sons; Dale (Maureen) of Appleton and Denis (Bonny) of Fremont; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Ethel Popenhagen of Hebron, Ill. and brother, Eric Peterson of Genoa City. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. She is further preceded in death by sister, Signe; brothers, Hank, Carl, Ernie and Bud; daughter-in-law, Beverly and son-in-law, Dennis Cefalu.
Funeral services were Feb. 15 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Delavan. The Rev. Robert P. Rickman officiated. Burial followed at the Richmond Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
