The Whitewater Unified School District’s Summer School Playhouse production will open this week for the public.

The production, “Bugsy Malone Jr.,” opened on Thursday in the Whitewater High School Auditorium. Additional performances will be on July 14 at 7 p.m. and July 15 at 2 p.m., also in the WHS Auditorium.

Based on the hit 1976 film starring a pre-teen Scott Baio and Jodi Foster, and featuring a score by Paul Williams, composer of “The Muppet Movie,” “Bugsy Malone Jr.” is about two gangs in a fictitious city populated only by children are in a rivalry of Capone-ian standards. Dandy Dan’s gang has gotten the upper hand since acquiring the “splurge” gun (a weapon that shoots whip cream). Bugsy Malone, a one-time boxer, is thrust into the limelight when he becomes the last chance Fat Sam’s gang has of surviving.

Reserved seat tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Tickets can be purchased one hour before the performance or reserved by calling 262-472-8178.
