A rowing machine, leg press, and other workout equipment like sqaut bars will soon arrive at Starin Park, following a recent decision by Whitewater officials.

The Common Council on April 19 awarded a $20,923 contract to Cambridge-based Lee Recreation for the installation project, which was included in the city’s capital improvement budget.

“This type of equipment has gained popularity in recent years and has been a project identified in the parks and recreation strategic plan,” parks and recreation director Matt Amundson said.

Lee was the second lowest of four bidders, but Amundson said he preferred contracting with the company because it offered a proposal that included all of the pieces of equipment that department was seeking.

The city had earmarked $20,000 toward the equipment installation, meaning Lee’s bid was slightly over budget.

In other recent business, the Common Council:

  • Amended a flood plain ordinance to accommodate work taking place at the Old Stone Mill Dam. The natural feature is located within Whitewater Creek and is included within Walworth County’s floodplain mapping plan.

The amendments were recommended by Waukesha-based architectural and engineering firm Ayres Associates and were previously approved by the state Department of Natural Resources.

  • Purchased two municipal vehicles from Ketterhagen Motors. The first purchase was a 2013 Ford Edge for the public works department at a cost of $23,800.

The second vehicle, a pick-up truck, will be used at the wastewater treatment plant. It carried a $30,830 price tag.

Both expenditures were included in the city’s 2016 capital purchases budget.
