District begins search for new administrator

Following the recent announcement of the resignation of District Administrator Eric Runez at the end of the school year, the Whitewater Unified School District school board requested district administrator search firm consultant proposals.

On April 25, the board hired School Exec Connect, a regional firm that has completed 15 successful Wisconsin searches since 2011 – all but one are still serving these districts.

The timeline for the search process has already started and is targeted for completion before the end of June. While the position has been posted and the consultants are recruiting candidates, our staff, parents, and community are invited to join the search process. One opportunity is to complete an online survey at www.surveymonkey.com/r/938F3P6 by May 17.

Additional opportunities offered include participation in a focus group during one of the times listed below:

  • WUSD Staff – Thursday, May 12, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m., Whitewater Middle School library
  • Parents and community members – Thursday, May 12, from 6 to 7 p.m., Whitewater Middle School library or Tuesday, May 17, from 9 to 10 a.m., WUSD’s Central Office board room

Topics that the online survey and focus groups will explore are: the greatest strengths and challenges of our school district, the top three goals of the new district administrator, and the professional skills and personal characteristics most desired in the new district administrator.

Responses to the survey and focus groups will be used in creating the New District Administrator Profile to be presented to the WUSD school board on May 23. The profile will inform candidate applications, candidate recruitment and the school board decision-making process.

The board will utilize the feedback from the open focus groups and representative interview teams in their decision-making and selection process. Monday, June 27 is targeted as the date the school board will approve of the new WUSD district administrator.
