Armed robber hits area grocery

Jim & Judy’s Food Market at 117 Taft St. in Palmyra was robbed at gunpoint Dec. 10. No one was injured during the incident.

Palmyra police received a report of an armed robbery at the local grocery store at about 5:20 p.m. Dec. 10. Police arrived on scene shortly after but the suspect had fled the area, according to a press release from the Palmyra Police Department.

An investigation by police revealed that a man entered the store, displayed a handgun at a cashier and left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to the police.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 40s with facial hair described as a “scruffy beard,” between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin-to-average build.

At the time of the robbery, the suspect was reported to be wearing an orange knit hat and dark colored sunglasses that completely covered his eyes and the sides of his face.

The suspect may be in possession of a large number of $1 bills, according to police. Police are withholding additional information regarding the amount of money taken at this time. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the scene.
