Health and insurance enrollment fair Feb. 10

Free, informational event to offer sign-up, blood pressure screening

The Wisconsin Association of Free & Charitable Clinics, Inc. has partnered with Irvin L. Young Memorial Library to offer a free Health and Insurance Enrollment Fair from noon to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10. The library is located at 431 W. Center St. in Whitewater.

In addition to offering information about the Affordable Care Act and the opportunity to sign up, blood pressure screenings will be available in honor of February being American Heart Month.

Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA, often referred to as “Obamacare”) insurance companies must cover preventative services at no cost to their members (i.e. no deductible or copay.). Examples of heart-healthy preventative measures covered by this are abdominal aortic aneurysm, blood pressure, and cholesterol screenings.

At the Feb. 10 fair, learn about the risks for heart disease and stroke and stay “heart healthy” by enrolling in affordable insurance. Health insurance options can be discussed with local Marketplace certified agents that represent all of the Marketplace plans in the area.

Deadline approaching

The last day to enroll in health insurance in America is Feb. 15. The tax penalty can be avoided by enrolling in insurance at the Feb. 10 fair.

While there for insurance reasons, blood pressure checks will be conducted by Mercy Health System and heart health education will be offered by Open Arms Free Clinic, Inc. out of Elkhorn. Because the heart is near the breasts it’s a good time to learn about breast health too and potentially earn a Kohl’s gift card from Kohl’s Conversations for the Cure/ Southeast Wisconsin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The Health & Insurance Enrollment Fair is a must attend, free event. Learn about the health resource available and enroll in affordable health insurance at the same time.
