Celebration of Perkins’ life set for Sunday

A celebration of the life of former University of Wisconsin-Whitewater coach, instructor and administrator Forrest Perkins will take place Sunday, Dec. 21, in the Hamilton Room at the University Center on the UW-Whitewater campus.

Visitation will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a memorial service beginning at 4 p.m.

Refreshments will be served on site following the service.

Perkins, the head football coach of the Warhawks from 1956-84, passed away Saturday at the age of 94.

Perkins is the football program’s all-time leader in wins (190). He led UW-Whitewater to 27 winning seasons, 11 conference championships and an appearance in the NAIA national championship game in 1966.

A member of the Wisconsin High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the UW-Whitewater Athletics Hall of Fame, Perkins served in several roles both at the university and in the Whitewater community throughout his decorated career. As director of athletics at UW-Whitewater from 1971-83, Perkins oversaw the institution’s transition to NCAA Division III and the construction of Warhawk Stadium, which was renamed Perkins Stadium in his honor in 1996.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Warhawk Football Endowment Foundation, and can be mailed to: Bob Berezowitz, UW-Whitewater Student-Athlete Complex, 800 W. Main St., Whitewater, WI 53190.
