July 4th parade plans announced

The Whitewater Lions Club set a goal of making the 2014 July 4th parade will be one of the best ever, in part because of the special guests who will be in attendance.

On the musical side of things, the parade will feature: the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle corps – a nationally recognized group of 150 members; 30 members of the University of Wisconsin Marching Band; the Sound of Sun Prairie Band, and of course the local favorites – the Whitewater High School, Whitewater Middle School and Whitewater Alumni Band.

The theme for this year’s event is “Flying High Over The 4th of July” in an effort to honor all “aviators” from all branches of military service. The Grand Marshal will be Calvin Tomoitsu, a helicopter pilot veteran of Iraq. The parade will begin with a fly over by a replica of a World War II P 51.

Prize money of $1,000 will be awarded to the best entries in the following categories: Neighborhood and Adult, Youth Group, and horses and ponies.

The Whitewater Lions Club invites children to decorate bikes/wagons/kid toys for ribbons and prizes. Bicyclewise & Sports Fitness staff will assist kids with bicycle decorations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, July 3.

Entries received by June 27 will be included in the on-line program at www.ww4th.com.
