Optimist Club gets things done

Last Thursday, a group of 10 volunteers from the UW-W/Community Optimist Club spent part of their day cleaning up a 2-mile stretch of Highway 59 for the Rock County Adopt-A-Highway program.

The club, in cooperation with the Wisconsin DNR and the UW-W Fishing Club, will be sponsoring a Free Fishing Derby Saturday, June 7 at Cravath Lakefront Park. The derby will be from 9 a.m. to noon and is open to anyone that is interested in participating. A parent or other adult must accompany children under the age of 14.

Wednesday, June 11 from 5-8 p.m. is Culver’s Night in Whitewater, a fundraiser sponsored by the UW-Whitewater Student Optimist Club to ship an ambulance filled with supplies to Burkina Faso, a country in West Africa in need of our assistance. The ambulance will be there to visit, take pictures, and accept other donations.

The club’s annual Optimist Gyro Stand will be held July 3-5 at Cravath Lakefront Park during Whitewater’s Fourth of July festivities featuring gyros cooked and served by the dedicated volunteers of the Optimist Club.

For more information about the fishing derby, contact Mike Ciardo at (920) 397-0442 or Rick Fassl at (262) 473-4906.
