Police make arrests on child sexual assault and arson

Officers and detectives from the Whitewater Police Department arrested a person for 1st degree sexual assault of a child and repeated acts of sexual assault to the same child and arrested two people for arson recently, according to a press release from the department.

On May 6, officers received a report from Walworth County Department of Health and Human Services Child Protective Services regarding a possible sexual assault of a child. A nine-year-old victim reported that a relative had been sexually assaulting the child over a period of time.

Officers and detectives immediately investigated and were able to arrest a 36-year-old male relative for 1st degree sexual assault of a child and engaging in repeated acts of sexual assault of the same child.

The press release states: “The Whitewater Police Department is dedicated to protecting all of their citizens, especially child victims. We are proud to be able to make an arrest on this case and help keep our children safe.”

On May 16 during the early morning hours, officers and fire department personnel were dispatched to 174 South Whiton St. for a report of structure fire.

Upon arrival, the exterior of the residence was on fire. Officers and fire department personnel were able to quickly extinguish the fire, but not without significant damage.

Two individuals with dark clothing were reported running from the residence just before the fire was reported. Officers and detectives received information on possible suspects and after an investigation, were able to arrest two males in their early 20’s for arson.

The Whitewater Police Department, in the press release, praised the fire department and citizens for their help in preventing further damage to the residence and providing evidence that led to the arrests of the suspects.
