Fire at sorority house displaces 23 UW-W students

A minor fire at a sorority house has temporarily displaced 23 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater students.

The fire at the Sigma Sigma Sigma house was reported about 10:44 a.m. Friday and was out within 30 minutes, according to Jeff Angileri, assistant director of marketing and media relations at UW-W. The house sustained smoke and water damage.

According to Angileri, all members of the sorority who live at the house were safe and accounted for. City of Whitewater police reported one minor injury as a result of the fire.

The UW-W Office of Residence Life will provide housing for the displaced students.

Counseling services are available at University Health and Counseling Services located in the Ambrose Health Center building and appointments may be made by calling (262) 472-1305.
