Southern Lakes Anthology winners announced

Congratulations are in order for the WUSD students whose Southern Lakes Anthology entries were selected at the regional Whitewater TAG Network competition that was held in Elkhorn Jan. 29.

SLA is an annual writing and art competition organized by the Whitewater Talented and Gifted Network, comprised of more than 50 participating school districts. The theme this year was: “Figure it Out.”

Students submitted work in categories of prose, poetry, illustrated writing, art and cartoons. The quality of entries by Whitewater students was clearly exceptional as 11 local entries were selected for inclusion into this year’s anthology.

Regional winners include: 3rd grade – Emma Clarksen 4th grade – Hailey Smith; 5th grade – Ella Houwers; 6th grade – Josie Hintz, Shawn Chan; 7th grade – Weston Lema, Zach Brantmeier, Nicole Sedmak; 8th grade – Kadie Zimmerman, Jamie Millian and Trinaty Crowe. They will each receive a copy of the published anthology and be honored at a special ceremony May 21 at the UW-Whitewater Young Auditorium.
