Historical Society to host special program

Oct. 24 event will focus on the Gorlin family and their businesses

The Historical Society of Walworth and Big Foot Prairie, Inc. will host a special program this week.

Set for 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, the Historical Society program will be on the Gorlin family and their businesses, presented by Viki Gorlin Pfister. The event will be held in the lower level auditorium at Golden Years Retirement Village.

The Gorlin family owned and operated the Wayside Hotel, Men’s Shop and Mata’s Apparel in the Village of Walworth. Gordon and Mata Gorlin were active in many local organizations and were well known throughout the community. Mata ran her dress shop for 28 years employing several local women, who could always be observed wearing the latest stylish fashions.

The Oct. 24 event is open to the public free of charge. Golden Years Retirement Village is at 270 Ridge Rd., Walworth.
