5K to raise awareness of child abuse prevention

Annual Agape House event set for April 27

Agape House will host its annual 5K Run Walk Stroll during National Child Abuse Prevention month. Individuals, families, and groups of all sizes are encouraged to participate on Saturday, April 27.

The early bird registration period has come and gone so registration is $30 and there is no guarantee of a t-shirt. The registration fee includes the walk, a catered lunch, and a commemorative t-shirt (if extra are available). Children younger than 16 can participate for free and pre-purchase lunch for just $5 each. The entry fee will be waived for individuals who raise $100 or more in support donations. Registration for the morning 5K will begin at 8:30 a.m., the 5K event begins at 10 a.m. and lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three individuals or groups who raise the most financial support, including a 1-hour massage with Life in Motion, a ‘Wine Down & Relax’ Gift Basket from First National Bank & Trust and a Gift Pack of Sauces from Kikkoman.

The event course begins and ends at the Agape House school parking lot, 215 S. Main St., Walworth. The 5K route along village streets provides ease of use for running, walking, strollers and wheelchairs.

“Agape House is honored to partner with these distinguished businesses and a host of anonymous friends and supporters who help to make this event possible,” organizers state in a press release.

Agape House is the only private residential home and school for teens in the state of Wisconsin. The non-profit organization offers hope and healing to abused or distressed girls ages 12 through 18, and boys ages 12 through 16.

Programs include Christian counseling services, mentoring, individualized educational courses, and a safe environment where the teens can heal. Counseling is also available for family members wishing to break unhealthy generational cycles.
