Man allegedly took kids to Mexico 15 years ago

An initial appearance was scheduled for July 8 for an Illinois man charged with taking his children from their mother in Sharon to Mexico nearly 15 years ago.

Efren Flores, 43, of Harvard, Ill., was charged June 15 in Walworth County Circuit Court with two counts of interfering with child custody by the other parent.

According to the criminal complaint, Flores’ girlfriend and mother of his children, Georgina G. Flores, told police Aug. 13, 2001, that she went to work in Darien on Aug. 11, 2001, and when she returned home, Flores and her two children, then 1 year old and 3 years old, were gone.

Georgina Flores said she and Efren Flores were having problems getting along, and Flores had threatened to take the children to Mexico if they broke up, according to the complaint. Efren Flores called Georgina Flores on Aug. 12, 2001, and said he was in Mexico City, Mexico, with the children, and she should fly to Mexico to meet them if she ever wanted to see her children again, according to the complaint.
