Ceremony set for Veteran’s Day to dedicate memorial garden

Walworth Memorial Library’s newest addition, a memorial garden on the west side of the building thanks to an award from Lowe’s, is now nearing completion.

According to a press release from the library, the purpose of the garden is to provide a garden area to commemorate veterans past, present and future. All of the crews from Lowe’s working on the project are volunteering their time to complete the project.

Work began on the garden on Oct. 10 and 26 volunteers turned out this past Saturday, Oct. 17, logging more than 200 volunteer hours on the project alongside library staff, patrons, American Legion Post 102 members and spouses of the Delavan Lowes employees.

Work will continue this Saturday, Oct. 24, and all are welcome to help with mulch and finishing touches.

Plans are to dedicate the memorial garden at 1 p.m. on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11. The ceremony is open to the public and all veterans and community members are invited to attend.

According to Lowe’s website, Lowe’s embraces teamwork as a core value and a key ingredient in maintaining an engaged work force.

As a result, the Lowe’s Heroes program, which began more than 10 years ago, follows that same philosophy.

“We believe that by working together we can build something better — for our company, our customers and our communities. Transforming lives one community at a time,” the website reads. “The program encourages employees in a location to team together, adopt a volunteer project with a local nonprofit organization or K–12 public school and make a difference.”
