Students at Williams Bay Senior and Junior High School were sent home early Sept. 3 after a blockage in the plumbing system caused a backup, rendering the school’s lavatories useless.

Williams Bay Schools District Administrator Dr. Wayne Anderson said the school’s plumbing system was backing up Thursday afternoon and restroom facilities became unusable. Issues like this need to be handled as quickly as possible whether it be a commercial or residential property, that is why searches for ‘local plumbers near me‘ are needed for whatever problem comes up. A clog on this scale certainly needed something bigger to see what was going on.

As a result, Anderson said the district opted to release middle and high school students shortly after noon on Thursday while the district worked toward solving the problem.

Anderson said the district ran a Roto-Rooter type of machine through the system to unplug the clog found about 15-feet outside of the building.

After unplugging the clog, Anderson said that the relining service team then ran a camera down into the system to attempt to discover what exactly was blocking it.

Anderson said running the camera through 100-feet of the system they weren’t able to find anything out of the ordinary.

“So, we don’t know what it was that caused the clog at the time,” he said. “We couldn’t see anything in the pipe that would let us know there’s some kind of an issue.”

Anderson said everything was working again Thursday afternoon. With students already having Friday scheduled as off for the Walworth County Fair, students returned to school on Tuesday.

Construction update

As for construction of the addition to the high school, Anderson everything is still going fairly smoothly.

Anderson said though rainfall has delayed outside work, the district still expects to have the addition ready for students at the beginning of next school year.

“Progress is moving at a normally expected rate,” he said. “So we’re taking it one day at a time and I’m just hoping for some warm weather and a mild winter.”
