As quickly as election season ended it has once again begun, as parties interested in running for an elected position on the Village of Walworth Board were able to begin circulating nomination papers on Monday.

Village Trustee seats up for election in the April 2015 election include those held by trustees Rick Novak, Dennis Vanderbloemen, and Todd Watters. Additionally, the seat of village president, currently held by David Rasmussen, will be up for election. All terms are for two years unless otherwise noted.

According to
Village of Walworth Clerk Donna Schut, requirements to run in the election are the same as they have been in the past and include filing forms with the village clerk in addition to nomination papers.

As a village in the state of Wisconsin, those circulating nomination papers in Walworth are required to collect a minimum of 20 signatures and up to 100, according to candidate paperwork from the Government Accountability Board. Nomination papers and a Declaration of Candidacy are due to the clerk’s office by 5 p.m. on Jan.6, the first Tuesday of January.

Currently, Schut said a packet – which includes all necessary forms and instructions – has been mailed out to incumbent candidates. Schut said those interested in running for an elected position can get the paperwork off of the Government Accountability Board website. If they do not have access to the website, Schut said interested candidates can also pick up the paperwork from her at the village clerk’s office.

Paperwork in the packet includes a campaign registration statement, nomination paper for nonpartisan office and a declaration of candidacy. According to the paperwork, a registration statement should be filed prior to circulating nomination papers and prior to spending or collecting funds for the election.

All paperwork must be filed on time with the village clerk’s office in order for candidates to be placed on the ballot at the Feb. 17 spring primary and the April 7 spring election.

The position of municipal judge will also be up for election this spring, a 4-year term currently held by Charles Hubertz. The two branches of Walworth municipal court will once again be one April 30, when the terms for the two municipal judges end. Those interested in this position must also file a Statement of Economic Interests with the Government Accountability board, prior to 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 9.
