The Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra performed the last measure of the 2018-19 season June 23 with a live performance of Walt Disney’s “Fantasia” to an enthusiastic audience in the Ferro Pavilion of the George Williams College of Aurora University.

The concert also marked the fourth time that the LGSO has kicked off George Williams College’s Music by the Lake series.

Led by Music Director David Anderson, the orchestra played the music accompanying a projection of scenes from Walt Disney’s original “Fantasia” (1940), a crown jewel of feature animation, and “Fantasia 2000.”

Musical highlights included frolicking flowers and fairies in Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker Suite,” Mickey Mouse dabbling in magic in Dukas’s “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” and mythical unicorns and winged horses accompanying Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony No. 6.

The orchestra 2019-20 season begins on Oct. 26 with a concert including “Three Dances from Bartered Bride” by Bedřich Smetana and “Rite of Spring” by Igor Stravinsky.

In addition, the first of three LGSO Chamber Music Concerts will be performed on Sep. 29.

Times and locations for concerts will be posted later this summer at www.LakeGenevaOrchestra.org.

Having performed regularly in Walworth County since 2001, the LGSO is dedicated to involving people of diverse ages, talents, and backgrounds in performing and enjoying great music.

The LGSO is a “community” orchestra, consisting of volunteer musicians from a wide area of southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.

The LGSO performs classical concerts, chamber music concerts, children’s performances, and holiday engagement. The orchestra also sponsors an annual young artist competition.
