Local man caught stealing from business

An initial appearance was scheduled to resume Aug. 31 for an Elkhorn man charged with stealing from his former employer.

Otto C. Ross, 53, was charged Aug. 30 in Walworth County Circuit Court with burglary of a building or dwelling as a repeater.

According to the criminal complaint, a member of the family that owns Shamrock Tool on East Geneva Street in Elkhorn drove by the business Aug. 23 and noticed a garage door standing open. He stopped to investigate and noticed a backpack leaf flower and a generator missing, and a snowmobile had been moved, according to the complaint.

A Walworth County sheriff’s deputy driving on Lincoln Street in Elkhorn saw a man riding a bicycle and wearing a backpack leaf blower. When the deputy pulled over to talk to the man, later identified as Ross, he dropped the bike and leaf blower and ran, according to the complaint.

Ross admitted taking the leaf blower from the garage of the business, according to the complaint.
