Elkhorn FFA shines at state convention

Emily Kruse (above on right), a member of the Elkhorn FFA chapter, is presented a State FFA Degree at the Wisconsin FFA Convention in June in Madison, the highest degree an FFA member can earn at the state level. Another local member, Amber Glassel (below) was selected to, and performed with, the Wisconsin FFA Honors Choir.

The Elkhorn FFA chapter was honored with a P.R.I.D.E. award for promoting, recruiting, inspiring, developing and educating at the State FFA Convention in June. The chapter earned the honor, in part, for adding 47 members, the highest increase for section 10 in southeast Wisconsin.

The convention hosted more than 3,000 association members, advisors and guests at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. It offered a variety of instruction, focusing on leadership, personal growth and career success, giving students an opportunity to apply skills and knowledge while gaining real-world experience.

Elkhorn FFA member Amber Glassel, daughter of Jeff and Lena Glassel, was also selected to participate in the Wisconsin FFA Honors Choir at the convention.

The choir features more than 80 musicians from across the state, selected by application and audition recordings by the director, Peter Engh.

“The first time these students practice together is at the State FFA Convention. They begin rehearsing the first morning of the convention and shortly after perform for the entire convention. They are a really talented group,” Wisconsin FFA Executive Director Cheryl Zimmerman said.

The State FFA Band also represents the Association by performing at the Wisconsin State Fair over a four-day span.

Emily Kruse, daughter of David and Amy Kruse, received a State FFA Degree Award, the highest degree an FFA member can earn on the state level. Her dad, David Kruse, is the Agricultural Sciences Instructor and FFA advisor at Elkhorn Area High School.
