Stillwater Coffee Company hosts art exhibit

The Elkhorn Arts Foundation, through its outside art exhibit program, recently announced that Stillwater Coffee Company is hosting one of its members through the end of September.

Mary (Marishka) Bub is the current artist at Stillwater and the program through the EAF aims to promote artists of many genres and offer the community an opportunity to view interesting art works locally.

Bub paints on photographs, wood, textured surfaces and uses computerized imagery in her work. The results can be arresting or calming, curious or childlike, according to a press release about the exhibit. She is an untrained artist, but like others working in this genre, considers herself highly productive.

“To be called a naive, outsider artist means to me that I am unrestricted by the structures of technical skill. Being creative means I am listening and working out my sense of intuition. When this happens art becomes both play and meditation,” Bub said.

“Whether the subject is found in a rural or urban setting, seeing it through the lens of my camera, I know I can add a new perspective when I playfully modify the image using color and texture. Watercolor and oil paints offer additional means of making my art tell a story,” she added.

Bub is the artist/owner of The Gypsy & The Hermit Studios.

Stillwater Coffee Company is at 1560 N. Country Club Pkwy., Elkhorn, and is open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
