The Kettle Moraine Land Trust received a grant from the Elkhorn Fund, a component of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin Inc., to support its “Day in the Woods” program.
The grant is made available from the Community Foundation’s Lori Genske Endowment Fund of the Elkhorn Fund. The Lori Genske Endowment Fund of the Elkhorn Fund is a resource for area nonprofit organizations whose programs and services are working for the betterment of the communities.
The Kettle Moraine Land Trust’s “Day in the Woods” program gives Elkhorn Area High School students the opportunity to learn about the importance of nature and land conservation in a hands-on way.
During the outing, students learn to identify and remove invasive plant species, plant native trees and test water quality at Petersen Island Woods Preserve in Elkhorn.
