Grant proposals requested for leftover Farm Technology Days funds

Funds left over after the 2016 Walworth County Farm Technology Days show will be given back to the community in the form of grants.

The Walworth County Farm Technology Days show took place at Snudden Farms in mid-July. More than 30,000 people attended the agricultural trade show, visiting with the 600-pluss vendors and taking tours of the state of the dairy farm as well as Farm City Elevator in Zenda.

“Despite the extremely hot weather, Walworth County Farm Technology Days Show was a huge success,” Walworth County Farm Technology Days Chairman Jim Stowell said. “We are excited to able to give money back to the community.”

The Wisconsin Farm Technology Days show takes place in a different Wisconsin county every year. Every show is almost entirely organized by volunteers, from the planning committees to the admission gate attendants. While this was a large responsibility for the local community, it also means that proceeds from the event can be given back to Walworth county residents in the form of grants to support agriculture and youth leadership development.

The purposes of these grants are to provide funding for the development of new programs, projects, or to enhance existing programs related to:

  • Creating community and consumer awareness of the importance and impact of agriculture;
  • Developing innovative educational agriculture experiences or projects;
  • Youth programs encouraging healthy lifestyles and leadership development; and
  • Offering educational leadership skill building opportunities and support for youth, families, and adults in Walworth County.

Only non-profit and public organizations that are based in Walworth County or benefit Walworth County residents are eligible to apply for grants.

To find out more about the selection criteria and the application process, go to the Walworth County UW-Extension website: walworth.uwex.edu or contact Stowell at (262) 492-6326 or jstowell@core.com.
