The first Elkhorn Area Chamber of Commerce Elkhorn Community Days will be this weekend and feature “All Things Elkhorn.”

Held in Babe Mann Park on Friday and Saturday, the all-weekend, summer kick-off event will begin with a 6:30 p.m. water ski show from the LAS Skiers on Friday in Babe Mann Park, followed by the “Minions Movie” at dusk.

On Saturday, the event will continue starting with the United Way’s Run United 5K run and walk, kicking off at 8 a.m. Over the course of the day, Community Days will have numerous activities for families and expos from local community groups from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., the LAS Skiers will perform again.

Elkhorn Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Chris Clapper said Saturday’s events will feature numerous community groups such as the AKF Flying Dragons, the Elkhorn Area Youth Center and Elkhorn’s new lacrosse club. She said this will serve as an opportunity for the community to come out and see what the various groups are about and have to offer.

“We have eight or 10 groups so far and people just keep calling,” she said.

Clapper said the chamber will have food and beverages available for purchase at the event and there will be activities and games for children.

“There will be something for everyone to do,” she said.

Sunday’s events will be held outside of the Elkhorn Area Chamber of Commerce office, 203 E. Walworth Street, featuring the second annual Father’s Day Pride and Joy Car Show, food and live music from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dash plaques will be provided to the first 100 cars to enter this year’s car show.

“Come and enjoy Father’s Day, come and look at some cool cars,” she said. “That’s what it’s all about.”

Admission and parking for all aspects of the event are free.

“We’re just trying to promote the things that are going on in the community,” Clapper said.

“With Monday being the first day of summer, we’re kicking off our summer with all these different things going on.”

Other area events happening over the weekend include the Walworth County Dairy Breakfast, held from 6 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Walworth County Fairgrounds, Old World Wisconsin’s Midsummer Magic from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, and the 46th annual Elkhorn Firefighters Street Dance, held from 6 p.m. to midnight outside of the fire station on South Broad Street. For further details on the street dance, see page 2 of this week’s Elkhorn Independent.

TDS Telecom is sponsoring the event, covering costs related to the event.
