A 23-year-old Janesville man originally arrested for allegedly shooting a 19-year-old Elkhorn man in June is set to appear for a jury trial on Feb. 1 and 2 in Walworth County Circuit Court for two drug charges.

Bradley Kochell, previously of 123 W. Hidden Trail, #204, Elkhorn, was arrested June 26 for second-degree reckless injury and confined in the Walworth County Jail after he allegedly shot Quintin Girard in the leg. According to the Elkhorn Police Department, Kochell phoned law enforcement personnel and identified himself as the shooter. Kochell changed his address to a Janesville address in October.

Kochell pleaded not guilty on July 28 to two drug charges, possession of THC, second offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Wisconsin Circuit Court Access online records.

According to the criminal complaint, Detective Matt Termaat of the City of Elkhorn Police Department executed a search warrant at Kochell’s residence at which time police found a glass pipe commonly used to ingest controlled substances and a quantity of what was believed to be marijuana, and later tested positive for THC, in an attached garage.

The complaint states police additionally found four syringes containing a fluid expected to be a controlled substance, and a burnt/charred spoon in a small safe in the northwest bedroom of the residence. In the same bedroom, the complaint states police found a driver’s license belonging to Kochell and a pill bottle containing foil, which contained a square of paper suspected of containing a controlled substance.

The syringes, spoon and contents of the pill bottle were submitted to the Wisconsin State Crime Lab for analysis.
