Proceeds to support association’s efforts

The Association for the Prevention of Family Violence of Walworth County is hosting its third annual Victory Over Violence Walk/Paddle to End Abuse fundraiser this Sunday.

The annual event is an athletic and fund-raising opportunity to support the Association for the Prevention of Family Violence of Walworth County, which serves victims of abuse and aims to help prevent and reduce abuse in the area.

The walk takes participants along the Lake Geneva shore path, as does the paddle – via kayak, paddle board or canoe – and walking and paddle routes of lengths between 2-miles and 6-miles are available.

“As a nonprofit serving the community, we’re excited to hold this unique and fun event, needed to support this vital local agency,” board member Jean Henderson said.

This year, Henderson said the association is encouraging team involvement and getting pledges and the event will also feature a unique “poker run” with chances to compete for prizes.

“With friends or individually, enjoy a walk along the lovely historic Lake Geneva shore path or paddle in the water along the shore,” she said. “It will do your physical and spiritual heart good.”

The event will kick off with check-in at 7 a.m. at Wesley Woods Retreat Center, 250 Stam St., Williams Bay, with participation concluding at 11 a.m. A continental breakfast is included following the walk/paddle.

Participants can register in advance at active.com or apfvwalworth.com at a cost of $35, or by phone at (262) 723-4653. A limited number of paddle board and kayak rentals are available with pre-registration.

On-site registration will also be available on Sunday morning, though pre-registration is preferred.
