Two men killed over weekend in vehicle crashes

 

Elkhorn man killed on Highway 11, West Salem man struck on Highway 120

According to releases from two area law enforcement agencies, two men were killed in last weekend.

According to a press release from the Town of Delavan Police Department, 85-year-old Norman Brummel, of Elkhorn, was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Aug. 7 near the intersection of Highway 11 and Royal Oaks Drive in the Town of Delavan.

The release said a vehicle traveling westbound on Highway 11, operated by Brittany Dixon, of Elkhorn, collided with a truck and trailer stopped on the shoulder of the roadway. Brummel, the operator of the truck and trailer, had been standing near the rear of the trailer at the time and was struck by Dixon’s vehicle, according to the release.

Brummel suffered serious injuries and was transported to Lakeland Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, the release stated.

A 22-year-old passenger in Dixon’s vehicle, Estefania Martinez, of Delavan, was transported to Lakeland Medical Center as well, according to the release, and then flown Flight for Life to Aurora Medical Center in Summit for her injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by the Town of Delavan Police Department, with assistance from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office. According to the release, its is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

In an incident Monday morning, a 38-year-old West Salem man was hit and killed on Highway 120 in Spring Prairie Township, according to a press release from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the release, Walworth County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a car versus pedestrian crash on Highway 120, just south of Highway D, at about 1:07 a.m. on Monday.

The release said upon arrival deputies discovered 38-year-old Chad Kneesel, from West Salem, lying in the roadway unresponsive. Lifesaving efforts were administered by deputies and responding medical units before Kneesel was transported by ambulance to a local trauma center. Kneesel died a short time later.

Initial investigation indicates a 2011 Mazda, allegedly driven by Dipen Patel from Lake Geneva, was heading southbound on Highway 120 and struck Kneesel who was walking in the roadway, according to the release. Patel was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated.

The release said evidence found at the scene indicates Kneesel had walked away from Alpine Valley Music Theater after attending the Phish concert. Patel was not coming from the concert.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office crash investigation unit continues to investigate. The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by East Troy and Mukwonago Emergency Medical Services as well as the Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office.
