Work begins on Highway 67 in Elkhorn

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation began work Monday on a traffic signal installation project at the interchange of Interstate 43 and Highway 67 in Elkhorn.

The project will enhance safety by installing traffic signals where they do not exist and update lighting and signs, according to the DOT.

The contractor, Outdoor Lighting, plans to complete the $450,000 project this fall.

The ramps on I-43 will remain open during construction. Outside shoulder closures will occur on Highway 67 for the installation of traffic signal equipment. Turn-lane and through-lane closures on Highway 67 will occur for short durations to install new signal poles.

In early August, the DOT is also scheduled to begin work on a resurfacing project on Highway 67 from Theatre Road to Elkhorn Road in Williams Bay. Spot improvements will include asphaltic base patching, curb and gutter treatments, pedestrian curb upgrades and sidewalk rehabilitation. The entire corridor, within the project limits, will be milled and overlaid.

The contractor, Stark Asphalt, plans to complete the $989,000 resurfacing project this fall.

For the resurfacing project, daytime, single-lane closures will occur with flaggers directing traffic. In the evening hours, treated roadway that is safe for travel will be opened back up to traffic. At least one lane in each direction on Highway 67 will remain open to traffic at all times.

The schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.

The DOT asks drivers to be courteous and careful when driving near the work zone.
