Man allegedly broke into Elkhorn apartment

An Elkhorn man charged with stealing change, cash, a phone and a watch from an Elkhorn apartment is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 20.

Jade P. Allen, 28, was charged Feb. 4 in Walworth County Circuit Court with burglary of a building or dwelling as a repeater.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called to an Elkhorn apartment Jan. 28 where Ming Dang had come home to find his iPhone 5, Tommy Hilfiger watch, a bottle of Jack Daniels whisky, $50 cash and a jar of coins missing. Police noticed pry marks on the door of the apartment, and Dang’s neighbor said she saw a black man wearing a blue jacket in the complex that day whom she did not recognize, according to the complaint.

Police went to Walworth State Bank in Elkhorn where a man who matched the suspect’s description had come in to cash in change and left behind the plastic jar the change had been in, according to the complaint. Police viewed video surveillance from the bank and recognized the man as Allen from prior contacts. Dang’s daughters identified the jar left at the bank as the one taken from their home, according to the complaint.
