Elkhorn man allegedly assaulted girl for years

An initial appearance was scheduled to resume Jan. 22 for an Elkhorn man charged with sexually assaulting a girl daily or weekly for eight years.

Lupe Medina III, 40, was charged Jan. 6 with two counts of repeated sexual assault of a child and second-degree sexual assault. All three charges carry total maximum penalties of up to 160 years in prison and $100,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

The now-17-year-old girl told a forensic interviewer Oct. 30 that Medina had been sexually assaulting her for years at a residence in Elkhorn. The girl said Medina molested her from the time she was in elementary school until February and also hit her during the incidents.

She said the assaults occurred sometimes every day and sometimes a week apart, according to the complaint. The assaults occurred from the time the girl was 9 years old until she was 16 years old, according to the girl.

The girl had told a detective in 2007 when she was 9 years old that Medina was assaulting her.
