Wisconsin Department of Transportation Program Engineer Tom Longton told the East Troy Village Board the DOT is making the repair work on the section of Highway 20 in the village a priority at Monday night’s meeting.

Longton was at the board meeting at the request of Trustee Matt Johnson after the DOT informed the village it would be repairing the section of the highway between Highway 67 and Emery Road before the section in the village proper.

Several residents spoke in citizen participation describing how bad the concrete was, calling it “dangerous” and citing how it was so bad in places it was possible for vehicles to go “airborne” when hitting the rough patches.

Longton said the road had failed in the area and the DOT was setting up the repair/replacement and was hoping to have a meeting with the village Department of Public Works this week and then getting the engineering done for the work.

“We’re on board for the project in 2023,” Longton said. “The concrete portion of the highway got lost in a bigger project. No doubt, we should have been here earlier. The project is a priority now.”
