A 36-year-old McHenry, Ill., man was killed early Monday afternoon after being shot in a residence in the 2000 block of Emery Court in East Troy.

David A. Bauspies was pronounced dead at the scene after Village of East Troy police officers responded to a report of gunshots at the address just before 12:30 p.m. Jan. 2.

“When the officers arrived on the scene they observed the deceased and observed one suspect in the apartment,” Police Chief Alan Boyes said. “They located the second suspect in the area and both were detained and arrested and booked into the Walworth County Jail.”

The suspects, Robert Sterling, 31, of McHenry, and Tyler M. Odell, 22, of East Troy, appeared in Walworth County Circuit Court on Tuesday afternoon for bond hearings. Court documents show Sterling’s cash bond was set at $20,000; he is scheduled to appear in court again at 1:15 p.m. Jan. 6. Odell’s cash bond was set at $10,000; he is next scheduled to appear at 1:15 p.m. Jan. 10.

Boyes said the matter is still under investigation by Village of East Troy Police Department, but charges against Sterling and Odell have been referred to the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office.

“I want to let people know that this was an isolated incident,” Boyes said. “Everybody connected to this is in custody and we’re not looking for anyone else.”
