A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 5 for an Elkhorn man charged with sexually assaulting an East Troy woman after a night of drinking.

Adam Robert Bridgford, 24, was charged May 23 in Walworth County Circuit Court with third-degree sexual assault.

According to the criminal complaint, a 27-year-old woman reported Nov. 14 that Bridgford assaulted her at her East Troy apartment early that morning. The woman said she and a friend went out to dinner the night of Nov. 13 and met up with Bridgford and two other woman at Mojos in Elkhorn. The woman said she left with a friend, who dropped her off at Al Smith’s Bar in East Troy, according to the complaint. The woman said she Facebook messaged Bridgford to make sure he made it from Mojos to his friend’s apartment safely. He replied that he had but then pulled up next to the woman in his vehicle as she was walking to her apartment from Al Smith’s Bar.

Once at the woman’s apartment, Bridgford asked if he could stay there because he was drunk, and the woman allowed him to sleep on her couch, according to the complaint.

The woman said she awoke with her shorts and underwear pulled down and Bridgford on top of her and attempting to have sexual intercourse with her, according to the complaint. The woman said she told Bridgford to get off of her but then passed out again and doesn’t recall if anything happened while she was passed out.
