The Town of Lyons Board considered replacing all three members of the Country Estates Sanitary District Commission Dec. 14, but ended up tabling two of the three replacements.

The Town Board voted to replace Wayne Pestor – who technically moved to Delavan – but allowed both Jim Miller and Doug Day to stay on the sanitary district commission until February, when the issue will come back before the board.

There are tensions on both sides of the issue. Town Board Chairman Bill Mangold said a terse “no comment” when asked to address the issue Monday, and said that he didn’t want to see the issue in the newspaper.

Meanwhile Day and Norma Miller – the wife of Jim Miller and also a part-time employee for the Country Estates Community Association – stepped forward to address what they believe is a power grab.

“Some of the players are not playing very fair,” said Day. Both Day and Norma Miller said that the request for Day’s removal was based on complaints about his behavior.

However, Day said that when he asked for examples of such behavior at last week’s meeting, he didn’t get any answer or even acknowledgement of his question.

Day said he didn’t want to take the issue to the press, but believes that it was the only way to deal with what both he and Norma Miller believe were issues being swept under the rug.

“I’m extremely, extremely embarrassed,” said Day, about this having to play out in the public.

“It seems like the only way we can get anything accomplished,” he added.
