Man killed by suspected drunken driver

BREAKING_NEWS      A 38-year-old man is dead after being struck by a car early Monday morning in Spring Prairie.

According to a press release from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office Chad Kneesel, of West Salem, was found lying unresponsive in the roadway when sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene just after 1 a.m. on Aug. 10.

The release stated the incident occurred on Highway 120 just south of Highway D in the Town of Spring Prairie.

Lifesaving efforts were administered by deputies and responding medical units. Kneesel was transported by ambulance to a local trauma center and died a short time later.

According to the press release, the initial investigation indicates that a 2011 Mazda, driven by Dipen Patel, of Lake Geneva, was southbound on Highway 120 and struck Kneesel who was walking in the roadway.

Patel was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

According to the Sheriff’s Office evidence found at the scene indicates Kneesel had walked away from Alpine Valley Music Theater after attending the Phish concert. Patel was not coming from the concert.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office crash investigation unit continues to investigate. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by East Troy and Mukwonago emergency medical services as well as the Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office.
