With words of praise and best wishes, the East Troy School Board accepted the resignation of its Director of Curriculum and Instruction Amy Foszpanczyk Monday night during its regular board meeting.

Foszpanczyk, who has been with the district for six years, tendered her resignation in a letter to the district March 5, saying it was with “bittersweet” feelings.

“It was not an easy decision,” Foszpanczyk told the board Monday night. “I started out as a teacher; I started out here, but through the years I’ve missed the connection with the kids. I see the things our principals do and how they get to be involved and I want that.”

Foszpanczyk has accepted the position of principal at Yorkville Elementary School in Union Grove. She will stay on in East Troy until June 30.

Foszpanczyk said she “wrestled with the decision” for a long time but felt she needed to make the move for her own professional development.

“I have truly enjoyed this job – the experiences, the challenges and most importantly, the people,” she wrote in her resignation letter.

She went on to say she felt she was leaving the district in good hands because of the strong administration staff in place. “I don’t think you can find a better team to lead the district.”

District Administrator Chris Hibner took the time to speak about Foszpanczyk’s contributions to the district over the years and made it a point to say how much she will be missed, especially in areas such as promoting professional development with the staff.

Hibner said with the budget issues facing the district and deep cuts made over the past several years, professional development is something that might have been cut in other districts but Foszpanczyk made sure it was a focus for East Troy educators.

“We’ve taken it to a whole new level when it would have been easily cut with the district shortfalls,” Hibner said.

School Board member Brian Wexler said in his work with Foszpanczyk during his previous time on the board, he was always impressed with where her priorities were.

“Always with the kids,” Wexler said. “It was always kids first with Amy.”

School Board President Ted Zess also expressed appreciation for all of Foszpanczyk’s hard work and reluctantly motioned to accept her resignation with a “We’re going to miss you.
