Camp Alice Chester master plan presentation set for Sept. 6

The public is invited to attend a presentation on camp master planning, and sustainable development at Camp Alice Chester, N8651 Townline Road, East Troy, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6.

The presentation, titled “Connecting to the Land – Escape to Swan Lake!” will detail the Girl Scouts’ plans to expand the camp from seasonal to year-round use.

The 90-year-old resident camp is in the headwaters that flow into Lake Beulah and Booth Lake.

Graphics from the master plan will be shared at the meeting to show the character of the proposed developments. Attendees will learn about the process of how the location of new buildings and improvements were determined, and how some of the challenges of the property’s features, like steep hillsides were overcome.

The presentation will be led by Garret Perry, Landscape Architect, and a key member of the planning team, who will discuss the Girl Scout’s vision to expand their camp.

The program will be followed by a walking tour of the Swan Lake area. Dr. Dan Carter, an expert in botany, will point out rare plants. The group will also discuss the conservation value of the property and its role in the watershed.

The presentation is free and open to the public.
