Jeff Kreft

Family and friends will pay tribute to Lt. Jeffrey C. Kreft, 36, of East Troy during a visitation from 3-7 p.m. at Brooklife Church, 857 S. Rochester St., Mukwonago. A memorial service will follow.

Kreft was killed while driving home from his weekend shift at about 6:32 a.m. Saturday on Highway 120 in the Town of Lyons, according to a news release from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office.

Kreft’s 1998 Saturn was struck nearly head-on by a 16-year-old male who crossed the center line while traveling southbound on Highway 120 in a 1998 Ford F-150 truck, according to the sheriff’s department’s initial investigation.

Kreft sustained critical injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at 7:12 a.m.

The driver of the truck suffered a broken foot and was released from an area hospital.

The drivers were the sole occupants in both vehicles.  Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

The Walworth County Crash Investigation Unit shut down the road for about four hours following the crash.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by Wisconsin State Patrol and The Lake Geneva Police Department.

The crash remains under investigation and will be reviewed by the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office when completed.

No citations or charges have been issued at this time.

Lt. Kreft worked with the  Twin Lakes Police Department since September of 2007.  He was previously a police officer with the Village of East Troy Police Department, Genoa City Police Department, City of Delavan Police Department and Geneva Lake Boat Patrol.
