Association for the Deaf makes timely donations

The two $500 gifts were given in response to COVID-19 impact

“First and foremost, our hearts go out to anyone who’s been impacted by the COVID-19, either directly or indirectly,” so begins a letter from the Southern Lakes Association for the Deaf in donating $500 to Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn.

“Our thoughts are especially with those who are sick, to whom we extend our heartfelt wishes for a full recovery. We are truly inspired by the selfless healthcare workers around the world as well as at Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn, who are on the front lines working tirelessly to care for people in need,” it states.

The Association said the donation to Lakeland was to help defray the cost of essential and necessary medical supplies for the staff at the hospital.

Dean Kelly, who has been a strong advocate of SLAD was the one who brought up the idea of having monetary donations to the hospital since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Lakeland has been very good with the people of the deaf community, meeting our needs and making it accessible to us during our medical needs. We all agree with him and supported his idea,” said Susie Kelly, who serves as secretary of SLAD.

The group also made a monetary donation to the Walworth County Food Pantry to help people in need of food during this crisis.
