The Village of Darien board approved hiring Jason Feucht of raSmith as its new village engineer Monday night. Feucht has worked with the village before, so the appointment was familiar.

According to a memo by Administrator Rebecca LeMire, the village signed an agreement with Kapur and Associates in 2016. At that time Feucht was the project manager for Kapur assigned to the village.

He assisted the village in that role with several projects including the reconstruction of Fremont and Market streets and establishing a geographic information systems website for the village.

In late 2017, according to LeMire, Feucht moved on to join raSmith as a senior project manager. Greg Calhoun was assigned by Kapur to replace Feucht with the village and Calhoun helped the village with several projects.

LeMire said the village has been satisfied with the work done by Calhoun, but still feels the village would benefit from again working with Feucht. LeMire said projects Feucht will help the village with in the coming years will include the Highway 14 reconstruction project and future utility planning.

In addition to Feucht, LeMire said the village will also gain the services of Brandon Foss, who also has worked with the village on past projects.

“This company can provide a level of experience and expertise relating to infrastructure planning, stormwater management, and wastewater systems that cannot be matched by the village’s current engineering firm,” LeMire said.

“He (Feucht) is very familiar with the Village and will be an asset to staff and the Village Board,” LeMire added.

Computer upgrades approved

Also on Monday, the board approved spending $4,770 to Kaco Computers of Delavan to replace two desktop computers, upgrade and repurpose two computers, and replace the Village Hall server.

LeMire said the village was made aware last year the operating system the computers use is out of date and will no longer be supported.

The village replaced three computers last year and left the remaining ones for replacement this year.

Participation in recycling program approved

The board also approved participating in a regional electronics and appliances recycling program to be held May 11 through 14 at the Darien Town Hall.

Refrigerant Recycling Solutions, LLC will partner with the village and town of Darien to collect electronic items including desktop computers, laptops, tablets, cell phones, printers, DVD players, TVs, computer monitors and more.

Meeting date changed

The board approved moving the March board meeting date from Monday, March 16 to Wednesday, March 18. The change was made because Village President Jane Stiles will not be available on the 16th.
