Area martial artist attacking bullying

Jeremy Lee, owner of the Delavan Nutrition Store and Veneration Jiu-Jitsu in downtown Delavan, is using his knowledge of jiujitsu to counsel kids in how to protect themselves from bullying with a free Back to School Confidence Camp held at his jiu-jitsu location.

“Bullying is a problem everywhere and it is made worse by social media,” Lee said. “The kids come home from school but it doesn’t end there.”

Lee said that when many adults were kids they could escape bullying by simply going home, but in today’s world social media and online gaming just follow the kids into their homes. While it might be easy for adults to simply say “turn it off”, that is not how today’s kids are wired.

“The level of vulgarities, profanity, racism, and bullying on live video games is unbelievable,” Lee said.

Confidence Camp meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m. and is open to kids ages 5 and older. The sessions will wrap up Aug. 29 and Lee said anyone is free to join at any time. If he sees a need for it, he will offer sessions again in the future.

Veneration Jiu-Jitsu is at 117 Park Place, Delavan. For more information call 262-812-9584 or like and follow Veneration BJJ Delavan on Facebook.
