Juveniles flee from police, crash into field

Two juveniles were arrested Wednesday after a high-speed chase that began in the Town of Sugar Creek.

A Walworth County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a black 2008 Nissan Versa traveling west on Highway A near Highway H after the car was clocked going 87 mph in a 55-mph zone at about 2:45 a.m., according to a press release from the sheriff’s department.

The deputy activated emergency lights and siren and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however the Nissan failed to stop and continued west at a high rate of speed, according to the release. The Nissan increased speed to more than 100 mph and went through the stop sign at highways A and O without stopping.

The car went into a ditch and was driven erratically as it continued west at highways A and 89 and sped through the stop sign, according to the department. The Rock County Sheriff’s Office was notified as the pursuit continued west toward the county line. The Nissan turned north off Highway A onto Highway M in Rock County, and continued at a high rate of speed, according to the Walworth County department.

The Walworth County sheriff’s deputy terminated the pursuit on Highway M near Highway KK in Johnstown Township in Rock County. After the deputy pulled over and turned off emergency equipment, area police agencies were updated on the last known direction of travel of the Nissan, according to the release.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s deputy then drove north on Highway M and saw the black Nissan had crashed into a field. Two occupants were seen running from the car, and a foot chase ensued. Two juveniles from Janesville were taken into custody with the assistance from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office at 3:45 a.m. Milton Fire and rescue were called to the scene and both juveniles were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The case remains under investigation and charges are pending.

  1. If the driver is over 16 and has a valid license, that license should be removed forever. He has obviously shown he has no right to be operating a vehicle of that size. If he doesn’t have one, he should never be allowed to do so. It wasn’t a five second long decision of stupidity; it was a deliberate act of “I don’t give a shit about anyone but me.”
