House burns in Darien

One resident injured

One person was taken to a medical facility for evaluation after a fire at 237 N. Wisconsin St. in Darien at about 12:40 a.m. Wednesday.

The Darien Fire Department was called to the fire at a single-family home with information that occupants were trapped inside.

When firefighters arrived at the two-story home, all of the occupants had gotten out, according to Fire Chief Justin Schuenke.

Smoke was coming from the second floor of the home, and the department called for assistance. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and had the fire under control and extinguished within 15 minutes, according to Schuenke.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. Damages are estimated at $75,000.

One occupant of the home was transported to a local medical facility for evaluation, and one firefighter suffered a minor injury while battling the blaze but was not transported to the hospital, according to Schuenke

The chief said residents should remember that most home fires happen at night when people are sleeping, and residents should check their smoke alarms monthly and replace their batteries twice a year.
