For area theatre aficionados, this weekend will prove to be one of music, song and dance for all to enjoy, as both the Big Foot Acting Company and the Williams Bay High School will be holding musicals both tonight, Nov. 21, and tomorrow night, Nov. 22.

Students from the Big Foot Acting Company will be performing “Seussical the Musical,” and Williams Bay High School will be performing “Once Upon a Mattress.”

“Seussical the Musical,” based on the works of Theodore Geisel – more commonly known as Dr. Seuss – follows the tale of Jojo, a young boy and “thinker of strange and wonderful thinks,” who brings together multiple Dr. Seuss favorites (including the Cat in the Hat, Horton the elephant, Lazy Mayzie and the Whos of Whoville) through a myriad of musical styles. The performances will be held at 7 p.m. on both nights in the Big Foot High School auditorium, 401 Devils Ln., Walworth.

“Once Upon a Mattress,” centers around the familiar fairy tale, “The Princess and the Pea,” though the traditional fairy tale is not what should be expected. Due to her noble birth, the Princess is unable to sleep on a bed of many mattresses when a tiny pea is placed underneath the bottom mattress. Hilarity and entertainment is sure to ensue as Williams Bay High School showcases its best actors, singers and dancers. Performances will be held at 7 p.m. on both nights at Williams Bay High School, 500 W. Geneva St., Williams Bay.

Tickets for “Seussical the Musical,” cost $8 for adults, $7 for high school students, $4 for grade school students and $6 for senior citizens. Pre-school children are free with adult accompaniment. Tickets for “Once Upon a Mattress,” cost $5, children 3 and younger are admitted free. To obtain tickets, contact the high school offices for more information.

Additionally, the Big Foot Acting Company is hosting a silent auction on Saturday to help fund not only next year’s musical, but also the Emily Sadowsky Memorial Scholarship, which will be given to two graduating Big Foot seniors in the spring.
