Boy shot in Sharon identified

Family of 11-year-old has set up website for donations

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office has identified the 11-year-old boy who was shot in the head yesterday afternoon in the Town of Sharon.

According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, Eric Gutierrez, 11, of Sharon, was declared brain dead at 12:38 a.m. this morning.

Sheriff’s deputies and Sharon Police officers responded to a 911 call about someone getting shot in the head at about 12:30 p.m. on July 9. The incident occurred in a wooded area behind N1602 Highway K in Sharon Township.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found Gutierrez with a head wound. First aid was administered and Sharon Rescue Squad responded. Gutierrez was transported to Mercy Hospital in Janesville where he was later declared brain dead.

According to the release, investigators have interviewed a 13-year-old boy, and the handgun has been located and collected along with other pieces of evidence.
